Systeme.IO Automation Triggers and Conditions
What You’ll Learn
You’ll master the triggers and conditional logic that allow Systeme.IO workflows to respond dynamically to subscriber behavior and automatically route people into different customer journeys. This skill transforms your automation from a simple broadcast tool into an intelligent system that delivers the right message to the right person at the right time.
Key Concepts
Systeme.IO offers a sophisticated system of triggers—the events that start workflows—and conditions that determine how workflows branch based on subscriber actions and characteristics. Triggers are the entry points (form submission, purchase, tag), while conditions act as checkpoints within the workflow that split audiences based on criteria like email engagement, purchase history, or custom fields. Together, these create highly personalized automation that adapts to each subscriber’s unique behavior pattern.
- Form Submission Triggers: When a subscriber completes any Systeme.IO form (landing page, survey, or registration), you can automatically launch a workflow specific to that form. This trigger is commonly used for lead magnets where completing the form immediately enrolls the subscriber in a welcome sequence.
- Purchase and Product-Based Triggers: Systeme.IO triggers workflows when subscribers purchase specific products, complete payment, or add items to a cart. These triggers power post-purchase automation like order confirmations, product delivery, and customer onboarding sequences that ensure successful product adoption.
- Tag-Based Conditions and Segmentation: Within workflows, you can add conditional branches that execute different paths based on whether a subscriber has specific tags (interests, purchase history, engagement level). For example, a workflow might send different follow-up emails to “high-engagement” subscribers versus “inactive” subscribers, increasing relevance and conversion rates.
- Engagement and Behavioral Conditions: Systeme.IO workflows can branch based on email opens, clicks, non-opens, and time-based conditions like “if email not opened within 24 hours.” These behavioral conditions let you automatically re-engage inactive subscribers with different messaging or move active subscribers into advanced sales funnels.
Practical Application
In an existing workflow, add a conditional branch by clicking the “Add Condition” button after your second email, then select “Email Opened” as the condition to split subscribers who opened your welcome email from those who didn’t. Create two different follow-up emails—one thanking active readers for their engagement and one re-engaging non-openers with a benefit-focused preview of your offer.
